Babywearing: Pouches

At last, the final post in this series on carriers! I saved this one for last because, to be honest, I'm the least familiar with it. This is the only type of carrier I do not own, nor have I ever used one. But I DO know that many women love them and swear by them! I use the terms pouch and pouch sling interchangeably, because it is a sling, but it's also a pouch. So! What's a pouch sling?
A pouch is, very simply, a loop of fabric that you fold and wear over one shoulder, much like you would a ring sling. Because it's just a loop of fabric, they are not adjustable, and sizing can sometimes be an issue depending on what brand you choose. The baby sits in the folded section.

A few recommended brands of pouches:

  • Hotslings
  • Peanut Shell
  • Slinglings
  • Karma Baby
  • Lucky Baby
Again, I'm sure there are other good brands as well, but these are some I've heard great things about.

One brand I DO NOT recommend under any circumstances is Seven Slings. If you're a member of any parenting message boards, or you get promotional emails, you will see a LOT of promotions about getting one of these "free for shipping". It is NOT worth it. Shipping costs between $10-$15. The slings are incredibly thin and rough, and would be incredibly uncomfortable for both mom and baby. They're probably safe to use, but they won't be comfortable.

Have an action shot of you and your squishy using a pouch? Want it to be featured on my blog? Send me an email at becomingacrunchymama@gmail.com!

  1. Just ordered a Hotslings pouch sling off of Zulily, so I'll let you know how it works when it finally comes. The only thing that makes me nervous is the sizing/adjustability...
